I woke up this morning with Mary Jane on my mind as I have done periodically throughout the years. Since we live in a social media world I hoped to see her on Facebook or to see if she was on Indeed, which would make it easier to reach out to her. But as I typed in the only name I knew her by, her obituary popped up. I’m too late. I met Mary Jane when I was young. I had to get a job to support my babies and I got a job at the Thirst Parlor Where I met Mary Jane. Mary Jane was a waitress and she thought me every thing I needed to know about waitressing. When she moved onto another job at Charlie’s House I followed her. I found a loving friend during that time in my life. She taught me so much! She would often have me and my baby boys over for lunch and we would have such great conversations about work, life, and men. I idolized her. She was not only a beautiful woman, but she could tell a story. I could listen to her for hours…and I did! She started dating a white haired gentleman who I can’t remember his name and our conversation times dwindled. Life moved on like it always does, but I remember Mary Jane helping me through some really bad times. She always took the time to make time for me. I am sad that I missed my opportunity to catch up with her, but I know I will see her again one day when that trumpet sounds. Mary Jane, I will always remember you. Thank you for teaching me about life.
Love, Cherry ( Charity Allen, now Pillar)

Lester, Anthony and Family:
I miss your MOM so much ... she was a very special Aunt who was always present for every part of my life. As an infant, she coddled me, made me special clothes and adored me with her love. During my adolescence, I have fond memories of spending weeks at her house playing "Pickle Party" and "Black Panther", eating her chocolate Snack Packs, Ding Dongs, Rotel Cheese Dip with Ruffles and lapping up her Chili Rice and staying up late to watch old spooky movies. Later during my Teenage years, she would patiently listen to all my Teen Drama and give me advise on Boys and Life. In Adulthood, she grew from not only being my Aunt but became my confidante, my Godly Mentor and my Friend! I am going to miss those 4 hour phone conversations talking about everything under the Sun! My heart aches so much as I know yours does too. However, I am comforted by the thought that she is in Heaven with our Lord and Savior enjoying a big banquet about right now. I know she is there with Grandma, my Mom and all of our loved ones. Soar with the Angels Aunt Mary. I will forever love you as there is no other person as Special as you!

Although I have not known Mary Jane for very long, only her son Lester, could have prepared me for who I was going to meet the day I started dating him. Mary Jane's wit and dry sense of humor always had me captivated when I visited her. Her stories were dramatic and her facial expressions were quite telling as I quietly smiled inside as each story was unfolded from the next. As people come and go in our lives some will be remembered others will not, Mary Jane will be somebody that I will always remember and have stories about. Rest in peace Mary your work is done.
