Obituary of Bertha "Bert" Azilee Crofoot
Bertha “Bert” Crofoot, 91, went to be with the angels on Monday, November 20, 2023. She is preceded in death by her parents Gearaldean and Beulah Woods Clingan; husband Ernest “Jack” Crofoot; brother Gerald Clingan; sisters Shirley Rankin, Barbara O’Neil, and Carolyn ‘Connie” Williams. Left to cherish her memory are her son, Robert Michael Crofoot; daughter Jackie Kacznarek; brother Richard Clingan; sister Esther Clingan; grandchildren Vanessa, Robert, David, Shanna, Stacey, Stephanie Ann, Julie, and Stephanie Lynn; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild, and a host of other family and friends.
Bert was a lifelong resident of La Porte. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great great grandmother. She was married to the love of her life, Ernest “Jack Crofoot, for 72 years before his passing in 2022.
Bert was extremely active in the community of La Porte. She was a House Mother at Boys Harbor, and Den Mother of Cub Scouts. Bert loved the Lord and was an active member of the La Porte Community Church for many years and then moved to the First United Methodist Church where she was active in Bible Studies, and women’s groups. Bert also enjoyed volunteering in several organizations, including the community thrift shop, and Arc, the association for people with intellectual disabilities.
Bert graduated from cosmetology school to become a hairdresser and after some time she also became an instructor at the school. She owned a Beauty shop with her mother. In the later years of her career, she became a teachers aid for Special Needs Children at Lomax Elementary School. During Bert’s retirement she enjoyed gardening, crafting, travelling abroad, and making special treats for her grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Services for Bert will be Saturday November 25, 2023. Visitation beginning at 10:00 AM, with the service following at 11:00 AM, at the Clayton Funeral Home Chapel, 201 S 3rd St in La Porte. Interment following at Grandview Cemetery in Pasadena.
