Obituary of Aurelia P. Hinojosa

Aurelia P. Hinojosa, a longtime resident of La Porte, Texas passed away on December 4, 2023. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in La Porte since 1974. She was preceded in death by her husband of many years, Homero Hinojosa, son-in-law George Rodriguez and Granddaughter Levina.

Left to mourn her loss are her daughters, Veronica (husband Phil), Cynthia (husband George†) and Rosie (husband Albert); son Homero (wife Melissa); grandchildren Higinio (wife Maria), Rachel (husband Lorenzo), Rafael (wife MaiLing), Jamie, Carissa (husband Kevin), Levina†, Albert (wife Shannon), Duran, Carlos (wife Chelsey), Cruz, and Fabian; great grandchildren Xylia, Aline, Amadeo (fiancé Ailine), Emilio, Emily (fiancé Andres), Zamira, Christian, Isabelle, Tai, Mia, Sofia, Carlos Angel, Damian, Cowen, Mateo, Mila, and Milo; great-great grandchildren, Damiano, and Enelyah.

Aurelia came from a large family that consisted of fourteen siblings that were all remarkably close. Aurelia and her sister Cristela were the source of numerous stories describing how strict parents were back when they were growing up. Aurelia and her siblings were born and raised on a ranch that was in Jim Hogg County.

Aurelia along with her siblings worked as well as went to school on the ranch. The ranch consisted of many livestock along with farmland, so there was always work to do. The ranch was also home to a one room school that held students of all ages.

Aurelia and her husband Homero moved to La Porte in 1974, the same year they joined St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Aurelia served as a Eucharistic minister for the church during the Spanish masses. Aurelia’s life centered around her family and the church. She was a prayerful, loving person that always had a kind word, a smile, and a helping hand for all. If you ever met Aurelia, she would remind you of the holy women mentioned in the bible. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

There will be a rosary service at 9:30 am on Monday December 11 at St. Mary’s Church, 816 Park Drive followed by visitation and then by a funeral mass at 11 am
