Obituary of Charles Clifford "Cliff" Walker
Charles “Cliff” Walker passed away peacefully December 8, 2023 in La Porte, TX. He was born December 11, 1937 in Dalhart, TX. to the late Etheridge and Lola Walker. In 1959, after serving in the U.S. Navy and Air Force, he met Cloetta “Cloe” Elsea at a diner where she worked in Perryton, TX. They married in November 1959 in Tahlequah, OK., and moved together to Dalhart, TX. to farm 600 acres of land next to Cliff’s family. They eventually made their way to La Porte, where he worked for DuPont as a pipefitter, mechanical supervisor, and in the training center until he retired in 1986. After retirement, Cliff served as the Chairman of the Supervisory Committee at Beacon Federal Credit Union in La Porte, before becoming the Chairman of the Board, finally retiring after 28 years of service in 2023. He also used his skills as a pilot to teach private flight lessons at the La Porte Municipal Airport for 11 years. In honor of Cliff’s long and valuable service to the community, the Mayor of La Porte, Luis R. Rigby, proclaimed Oct 13, 2023 as Charles “Cliff” Walker Day. Additionally, Beacon Federal Credit Union established a scholarship fund in his name for aspiring college students. He was also a faithful member and served as a deacon at the First Baptist Church of La Porte.
Cliff was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Cloetta Walker. He is survived by two sisters, Linda Parker and her husband Howard, of Texarkana, AR., and Carol Brace of Fort Collins, CO., and by his two sons, Darrell Walker and his wife Tinamarie, of Austin; and Ronald Walker and his wife Sylvia of La Porte. He has 3 grandchildren – David Walker and his wife Rachel of Euless, TX., Jennifer Walker of Austin, TX., and Jeremiah Walker and his wife Nathalia of Forney, TX. Cliff also has three great grandchildren from Jeremiah and Nathalia – Alexander, Skylar, and Elena. Additionally, there are many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Many of those friends, such as his neighbors of more than 40 years and the many people he served with at Beacon, were very special to him.
