Anita, as she was affectionately called by the family, opened her home to us soon after we arrived in America until we were ready to live by our own means. She was our guide in everything, from finding work, a good apartment where to live, including the necessary furnishings, to finding a good preschool for our little daughter Sandra. She selflessly provided after school transportation for Sandra every day while we needed it. She took us to Bible study on Wednesdays and church on Sundays if Jorge was working. Later on, when the other children came and we were already adapting to life in our new country, she was always present, encouraging, celebrating, sharing.
Looking back, she lit the way for us in the USA.
She never measured what she gave, but gave joyfully and freely.

Tia Anita was very special to me. When I was young, she used to pick me and my sister up and take us places with her. In fact, one of my earliest memories is her picking us up to see a parade where Cynthia was performing with her high school cheerleading squad. I don't know how accurate this memory is (I probably was 3 at the time), but I remember eating McDonalds after. Tia Anita was a constant in my life. I used to go with her to help her prep her class for the beginning of the school year or to VBS or even just to help her figure out how to use print a document on her computer. She would always introduce me to her friends and buy me beakfast and/or lunch on these occassions. Sometimes I would get to meet her students and their parents. I could see what a great teacher she was, how much she loved what she did, and how much her students loved her. Tia Anita was generous and kind and she always thought about others. I loved her very much, and I will miss her.

I will never forget how kind and patient she was. And I still hear her voice on our college dorm answering machine, making sure Deborah was studying hard and going to church. She was a wonderful woman who will be missed greatly!
