Obituary of Freddy Ray Cessac
Dr. Freddy Ray Cessac was born on April 15, 1933, to Dupree and Bethel Cessac. He grew up in Nederland, TX, where he met his neighbor, the love of his life, Theta Dell Morgan. Freddy Ray graduated from Nederland High School in 1950. Afterwards, he attended Lamar University. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, where he was deployed to Germany. While there, his future wife Theta sent him a letter saying, “I’m coming to Germany, and we’re getting married!” On Sept. 3, 1955, Freddy and Theta became the first American couple to be married in Germany after the occupation.
Once they returned to Texas, Freddy Ray chose to study dentistry, and graduated from UT Dental branch with a specialty in Pedodontics (children’s dentistry). In 1961, Fred and Theta took a trip to visit Theta’s birthplace, a small town in Southeast Texas called Pearland. As fate would have it, they were looking for a dentist. So, he and Theta moved there, and Freddy Ray became Pearland’s very first dentist!
Between 1961-62 Freddy and Theta became parents, twice! Their son Phil was born in September, and son Dane the following August. Then, in 1972, Freddy Ray and Theta welcomed a new addition to the family when they adopted their daughter, Mollie. Some of Fred and Theta’s best memories were made coaching little league baseball, dancing together with their Square-Dancing friends, many family vacations to Colorado, and weekends spent sailing their boat “The Mollie E” with friends from the Jean Lafitte Sailing Club.
Freddy dedicated his life to serving his community. He was an active member of the Pearland Lions Club, where he held the prestigious office of District Governor, and Director of the Texas Lions Camp. He served a term as President of the Pearland Chamber of Commerce and was a board member of the Pearland ISD School Board. He became a lifelong member of the Masonic Lodge, the Shriners, and the Jesters, as well as serving as President of the 9th Dental District. He was also a founding member of West Side National Bank of Pearland, and served as a professor at the University of Texas Dental Branch.
Freddy Ray was a talented gardener and was known by many to have one of the most beautiful backyards in Pearland. All three of his children were either married or held their wedding reception in this back yard for that very reason. In his later years, he learned how to play the organ, volunteered at the Pearland Library, and participated in the Citizens Police Academy with the Pearland Police Dept.
Freddy is preceded in death by his parents Dupree and Bethel Cessac, his loving wife Theta, his brother Karl Dane and granddaughter Sophie. He is survived by his brother Dwayne, son Phil and daughter-in-law Linda, son Dane, and daughter in law Honour, daughter Mollie and son in law Dimitri, grandchildren Dupree, Morgan, Rhea, Preslie and Braden, and great-grandsons James and Owen.
