Obituary of Juan Luis Moreno-Gongora
Juan Luis Moreno-Góngora, born on August 4th, 1961 in Panama City, Panama, breathed his last on February 16th, 2024 at his home in Houston, Texas after confronting cancer with remarkable resilience and strength. He leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. In his 62 years of life, Juan was a devoted husband to Eysenith Arline Moreno-Góngora for 37 years, a loving father to his daughters Grace Arline (Miguel Ángel) and Ashley Nicole (Abraham Michael) and was thrilled to be promoted to abuelo in early summer 2024.
Juan was preceded in death by his father, Miguel Ángel Moreno-Góngora. In addition to his wife, children and grandchild (in-utero), Juan leaves behind his mother Maria Elena Arango Henriquez and siblings (Maria Elena, Maria Eugenia, Miguel Ángel), several cousins, nephews, nieces, and extended family who will continue to honor his memory with fondness and reverence.
A man of hard work and ambition, Juan emigrated to the United States with his wife in 1988, working two jobs, raising his girls while also studying to complete his B.S. and M.S. degrees in Computer Information Systems at the University of Houston at Clear Lake. He spent over 25 years in various technical and leadership roles in the aerospace industry. In addition to his professional achievements, he was a tireless mentor and advocate for technical talent in underrepresented communities with leadership positions in the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers and Leidos’ employee resource group, HoLA. Juan touched the hearts of all who knew him with his passion for lifting up others and his contagious laughter; and will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and all those fortunate enough to have crossed paths with him.
In his final days, Juan found solace in the love and support of his family, who stood by his side with unwavering devotion. Though his physical presence may be gone, his memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved him. Visitation and Rosary will be held on Tuesday, February 20th from 6:00 to 8:00PM at Clayton Funeral Home of Pearland. A celebration of Juan's life will be held on Friday, February 23rd at 2:00PM at Mary Queen Catholic Church in Friendswood.
The family welcomes memorial donations to MD Anderson Cancer Center as an expression of sympathy instead of flowers. The family would especially like to thank Dr. Jason Westin, the Lymphoma & Myeloma Team and the staff at MD Anderson for their constant, attentive treatment; and the Clayton Funeral Home, for making the arrangements.
May his soul rest in eternal peace.
