Obituary of Lynda Bryant Edwards
Lynda Bryant Edwards was the third and youngest daughter born to Eunice Walton and William Russell Bryant in San Antonio, Texas. She completed her primary education in San Antonio and earned the BA degree from Howard University with cum laude honors. She received her Masters degree from University of Pennsylvania and completed an additional 60 hours in Counseling and Guidance with a concentration in Community College Leadership at Texas Southern University.
In May 1974, Lynda and Herman Leslie Edwards were united in marriage. They were blessed with a precious daughter, Arielle Elizabeth in 1984.Additionally, Tanya Daniels, Herman’s daughter became an integral and welcome part of their family and there were many happy and blessed occasions during their marriage.
Lynda was employed as a hospital social worker immediately after completing her degree, but realized her goal of working in community colleges in 1985 at North Lake College in Irving, Texas. During her 33 year career there, she served as Director of Counseling, Dean of Student Enrollment and Development and fi nally as Dean of Student Services where she oversaw eight student service offi ces as well as being an adjunct faculty member. She retired in 2018.
Raised in St. Paul United Methodist Church where her Father served on the Board of Trustees, Lynda and Herman remained active members in Trinity United Methodist Church in Houston, Hamilton Park United Methodist Church in Dallas and fi nally, Jones Memorial United Methodist Church in Houston. At various points, Lynda was a member of the Hand Bell Choir, the United Methodist Women, and the Scholarship Committee.
Lynda was a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. earning Golden status in 2020. She remained close to her line sisters from Howard
University, Alpha Chapter, who enjoyed trips and gatherings throughout their years of sisterhood. She was also a member of the Dallas Chapter of Jack and Jill of America and was inducted into the Trinity Chapter of The Links, Incorporated in 2004. She transferred to the Greater Pearland Area Chapter upon their move to the Houston area in 2018. Lynda held offi ces and served as committee chair and members during her tenure in each organization. Active members of Conversational Book Club for over 25 years, her book club buddies have held a special place in her heart.
Lynda was blessed to have a loving, supportive family. Those who preceded her in death are her parents, William and Eunice Bryant, sisters, Faye Price Renwick and June Bryant McDowell, nephews Archie and Bryant Price and niece, Jacqueline Renwick. She leaves to celebrate all the wonderful events of her life her husband, Herman, daughter Arielle, bonus daughter, Tanya and husband Michael, granddaughters Adele and Elise, nephews Dr. Gladstone McDowell and David McDowell and nieces Andrea Richards and Suzan McDowell. Her in-laws, Robert and Mary Edwards (deceased) provided valuable support throughout the years as well as brother-in-law, James Edwards and sister-in law, Ella Brown McCoy. Other nephews and nieces and their families are Kwame Brown, Brian Edwards, Averon Edwards, Dearah Edwards (deceased), Averianna Edwards and favorite cousins, Dorothy, Willie and Darryl Fitzgerald, Valeta Jones, Odis Walton, and Joyce Nelson.
