Obituary of Thomas Wesley Harrington
On February 20, 2024, we lost our hard working, fun loving, always up for a good time, Thomas Wesley Harrington, after a long, courageous battle with cancer. His family never left his side and Tommy never lost his sense of humor through it all. Tommy went by many names to the family and friends that loved him, but he was most fondly referred to as Dad, Pops, or Grandpa. He was happiest when spending time with his kids or supporting his grandkids in their various activites.
Tommy was born November 12, 1949 in Houston, Texas to Thomas Milton Harrington and Anne Valuna Harrington. He graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School in Houston, TX in 1968. Throughout his high school years, he could be found with his best friends Jackie and Jerry, who they called the “Three Musketeers”. After high school, Tommy joined the Navy where he proudly fought in the Vietnam war. After the war, in addition to raising his kids, he worked along side his father at Lawndale Pattern Works. Tommy later took over the business and renamed it Southeast Letter Press. He successfully worked his business for many years. Tommy enjoyed living in Magnolia, Texas until July 2023 when he moved closer to his kids.
Tommy is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Anne Harrington, his wife Lynda Harrington and son Ronnie. Until his last day, he was loved and cherished by Son Thomas Dean Harrington and wife Aimee; grandkids Candice, Ashley, and Jordan, Son Jerry Lee Harrington and wife Donita; grandkids Lindsey and Kaitlyn, Son Jason James Harrington and wife Suseinn; grandkids Madison, Riley, and Ava, Daughter Angela Marie Mitchell and husband Tommy; grandkids Murray, and Charley, Son Corey Thomas Harrington and wife Lisa; grandkids Skylar and Lyla.
Tommy rarely missed a family gathering or any reason to support his grandkids. With his grin that always made him look like he was up to something, or his calm presence that made anyone and everyone always feel welcome, he was always the life of the party. Every family gathering always included Hank Williams “Family Tradition” as all his children sang along side him. He enjoyed many camping trips with family, yet never thought he needed a reservation. He had an incredible work ethic that he passed down to all of his children, but he also thought a good nap was in order. Tommy believed you should always live life unapologetically and to the absolute fullest. He never sweat the small stuff, even in the most stressful of situations. He lived life on his terms and left a legacy for his children and grand children to carry with them.
A funeral service for Tommy will be Thursday, March 7th at 11:30 am at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, TX 77038. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Houston VA. The family appreciates all the love and support they have received over the past few months.
