Obituary of James McArthur

Dr. James A. McArthur passed peacefully Monday, March 11, 2024 in El Lago, Texas, at 85 surrounded by family and friends. Born March 21, 1938 in Crestview, Florida, he was raised by his parents, James Alta, and Mallinee Mapoles McArthur, alongside his younger sister, Penny.
During his junior and senior years in high school, he was a page in the US House of Representatives for US Congressman, Bob Sikes, and graduated from Capital Page High School in 1956, receiving his diploma from Vice President Richard Nixon. He later earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Florida, a master’s degree from Miami of Ohio University, and a PhD from Stanford University. Completing post graduate work at Harvard University.
He married Carole Williams of Waycross Georgia, and they moved to Miami, Florida. He was a college professor at N. Carolina State, Florida International Univ. and a teacher of agriculture in Miami-Dade County Public Schools. The two raised four beautiful children together. After the passing of his wife in 2004, he moved with his son to El Lago, to be closer to his children.
He is survived by his children, Wendi Vermillion (& Gary), Cam Michalak (& Jeff), Drew McArthur, and Meg McArthur (& Tammy), his eight grandchildren-Andrew, Ben, Catie, Delaney, Cheyene, Riana, Aiden, Dakota, great grandchild, Riley, and his sister Penny Janowski (& Jim). We will miss him dearly.
