Dr. Kathleen (Kathy) Elizabeth Becan-McBride, 75, of La Porte, TX passed away peacefully on March 19th, 2024. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Dorothy Becan. She leaves in God’s care her loving husband of 54 years, Mark McBride, her sister Louise Beaulier, sons, Patrick McBride; Jonathan McBride, wife Danielle, adoring grandchildren Finnaveir McBride, wife Lily; Madeleine McBride, Mitchell McBride, and Luke McBride. She leaves behind many nieces, nephews, friends, and colleagues.
Kathy was born in Houston, Texas, on February 24,1949. She graduated from Spring Branch High School. She then attended the University of Houston where she earned a bachelor’s degree, master’s degree and Doctorate of Education. Kathy was a tenured professor in the Department of Family & Community Medicine at The University of Texas Health Science Center Houston where she served the medical community for over 30 years in various capacities. In addition to consulting Kathy wrote, edited, and published over 20 medical textbooks that continue to be utilized today.
Kathy loved to experience life and brought joy to those around her. She was a gifted musician, playing the French horn in a concert band and the piano at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in La Porte, TX. She enjoyed a variety of hobbies including traveling, horseback riding, marathon running, and playing in an adult soccer league. Later in life, she devoted her time to her family, by attending her grandchildren’s school and extracurricular activities. She enjoyed watching them play softball, football, and jujitsu.
Kathy was always on the go and loved being with family and friends. She was always the most positive person in the room and was rarely upset. When something was not working out the way she expected, she rolled with it and made it better. As a devout Catholic, she had her faith in Christ to lean on throughout her illness and left with a smile on her face.
