Obituary of Linda Lu Fisher

Please share a memory of Linda to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Linda Lu (Harrah) Fisher passed away peacefully after a long battle with lung disease at the age of 75 on Saturday, March 23rd, 2024, in Houston, surrounded by her beloved family. A light of love, joy, and kindness has left the world a little bit dimmer.

She was born August 21st, 1948, in Ponca City, Oklahoma, to John and Lucille Harrah.  She was middle sister to Judy Romine and Susan Bond.  She grew up in nearby Newkirk, Oklahoma, and after graduating from Newkirk High School in 1966, she went on to Northern Oklahoma College to earn her Associates degree in Business, in spite of a dream of becoming a journalist.  There at a dance she met the love of her life, Lary Fisher.  She said it was love at first sight.

Lary joined the army and was in a car accident in which his neck was broken. Less than 6 months after this accident, Linda and Lary were married on August 3rd, 1968, at St Frances of Assisi Catholic Church in Newkirk, Oklahoma.  Linda and Lary shared a love that everyone who met them could easily see—it was a love affair that endured through a beautiful life together, filled with family, service, and devotion.

Their first daughter, Danna Kutach, was born in Dallas in 1974.  After a couple of moves, their second daughter, Krista Herman, was born in 1978 in Stillwater, Oklahoma.  Linda devoted herself to motherhood and homemaking, always making sure her family sat down for a homemade dinner together every night.

Linda was also especially close to Lary’s sisters, Marla Ramsey and Cheryl Henke and their families.  Many happy days were spent with Lary and Linda’s extended families.

Lary and Linda lived in Sweeny, Texas, for 10 years while their children were growing up.  During that time, Linda served as the children’s “story lady” at the public library.  She volunteered in the schools constantly, served in the newly created PTA, and was a devoted Girl Scout Leader.  She was even named “Woman of the Year” one year by the Sweeny Chamber of Commerce, which was unheard of for a non-Chamber member.  After the move to Bartlesville, Oklahoma, and subsequent moves to Houston, Qatar, The Netherlands, and finally to Pearland, TX, she continued to perform small acts of service for everyone that she knew.

Linda was a loving mother-in-law to Danna’s husband Mark Kutach and Krista’s husband Robie Herman, who were equally devoted to her.  Through Danna and Krista, she had 5 grandchildren, Ava Kutach (20), Lyla Kutach (17), Caroline Herman (16), Jack Herman (14), and Ella Kate Herman (13).  She never missed any special event for any of her children or grandchildren.  She was always cheering the loudest in the audience.

She was a stranger to no one, friend to many, and beloved by everyone.  Her love language was definitely giving gifts, keeping in touch with all her grandchildren, nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews by sending them thoughtful gifts for every birthday and holiday.  She kept a drawer in a small chest in her living room for each of her grandchildren, where they would run when they came to her house.  She would leave them each a small token every day that she knew they were coming.  She was a fantastic neighbor, who also enjoyed bringing little gifts to the small children who lived next door.

Linda also enjoyed gardening, having spent many hours tending to her beautiful flowers.  She loved the beach, especially Surfside Beach and Port Aransas, both in Texas, where many a happy weekend day was spent with her family.  She walked every day when she could, which is how she met many friends, stopping to greet people in their yards.  For a girl from a small town in Oklahoma, she and Lary traveled the world and shared so many adventures before she became too sick to go.  She spent many, many, many hours baking cookies and lemon bread and playing board games with her grandchildren.  Her family was by far the most important to her; her friends were a close second.  She was more concerned for the people around her than herself, even in her last days.  She shared a love with Lary that is extremely rare, never wavering, and they cared for each other for 55 years so far.

She is preceded in death by her parents, John and Lucille Harrah, Lary’s sister Cheryl Henke, her niece Lenay Fisher, plus many beloved aunts and uncles.  Linda’s memory will be cherished and kept alive by her husband, Lary, her daughters and sons-in-law, Danna and Mark and Krista and Robie, her grandchildren, Ava, Lyla, Caroline, Jack, and Ella Kate, her sisters Judy (along with her husband Lynn Romine) and Sue (along with her husband Dennis Bond), her sister-in-law Marla, her brother-in-law Bob Henke and his wife Jeanette, and her many nieces and nephews with their husbands and wives and children who were especially dear to her as well.

Linda will be profoundly missed, but her family knows she is now at peace and no longer suffering.  “What we have once enjoyed we can never lose: all that we deeply love becomes a part of us.” – Helen Keller
