Mr. and Mrs. Koterba-
I met you both when Jaden was going through his surgery at MHCH, my husband and I had just gone through the same surgery with Hank our son and we came to the hospital to be with Jeff and Kristin. I text messaged Kristin to check on Jaden and I was given the sad news of Phillip. I am so extremely sorry for your loss and I am praying for your family during this time. I am so proud that Phillip’s organs were donated, what a selfless decision to help others. We are so blessed to have an amazing team of doctors and nurses here in Houston especially on the 9th floor of the PICU at MHCH. I will continue to lift your family up in prayer for comfort and peace.
From one PICU Mom to Another my heart is broken for your family.
In HIS Love-

I truly enjoyed having Phillip in my first grade class. I still enjoyed our conversations, even as he was in third grade, about how much he loved reading and loved school. I miss his hugs and his smile. I am keeping your family in my prayers.

There are no words that can express how sorry I am for your loss my heart aches for you. I can remember him as a baby in his stroller at the dads club always smiling. No one understands why things like this happen but just know that he wasn’t alone that our Lord Jesus Christ had his loving arms wrapped around him. On a beautiful day when you feel the breeze just look up to the skies blow him kisses and know your little angel is smiling down on you. Love you guys.

Cooper Anguiano’s Oma, Charlene Hollis:
Phillip was such a good friend to Cooper. I talked with Phillip only two or three times, at baseball games and at school, but even those brief moments in the sunshine of his sweet personality and irresistible smile made him unforgettable. I cannot imagine your pain but I can tell you I am convinced Phillip was that rare person who grabs every bit of fun and joy and love that life offers. Though his time was too short, I know you will find comfort in remembering that Phillip lost very little time being sad or angry…because he was just too busy enjoying life. We should all be as wise. Phillip and your family are in our prayers.

I have brought Phillip to school everyday for the last 1 1/2 years. He was such a sweet boy and had a wonderful sense of humor. I will miss him telling me about what book he was reading and all of the funny little things he would say. The kids are all saddened by the loss of their good friend and it hasn’t been nearly the same with out him. My deepest condolences to his family for the loss of their wonderful little boy. He was truly a blessing to everyone that knew him.

My son, Brady, went to “For Children Only” with Phillip and even though my son was younger Phillip found the time to do a lot with him. They both also rode the daycare bus to C.J. Harris together. Although I did not know Phillip, I felt like through my son’s eyes I did this week when he drew a picture at school of Phillip and him. So you know Phillip’s sweet spirit lives on in so many chidren he came across. As a mother, words cannot express how much my thoughts are with your family but I want you to know Phillip and your family will always be in our hearts.

My son Tyler plays for the baseball team that Phillip’s team played the Friday before this terrible tragedy. Ty didn’t personally know Phillip but he quickly recalled what a good player he was. He is so sad that this happened, he now wears a wrist band in honor of your son day and night and will not take it off. As a mom my heart hurts terribly for your family. Please know that Phillip has touched many lives and will always be remembered! We are praying that God will wrap His loving arms around your family and bring comfort during this difficult time.

Dear Koterba Family,
Harris Elementary is deeply sorry for your loss. Phillip was such a wonderful student who brightened the days of so many. We have such fond memories of his smile, laughter, love of reading, and of what a wonderful friend he was to all those around him. A part of our Harris family is missing and we know that the pain we feel as a school is only a fraction of what you must feel as a family. Please let us know if there is ANYTHING we can do to help. Our thoughts are with you at this very difficult time.
Sincerley,
Ruth Riha, Principal
