Phillip Ian Koterba, age 9, passed away on May 8, 2011. He is preceded in death by his grandfathers, Phillip McKissick and David J. Koterba. Phillip is survived by his parents, Jeff and Katrina Koterba; brother, Jeffrey Koterba and his wife Kristin; grandparents Barbara Doggett, Dottie and Donald Vrazel; Aunts and Uncles, Jeanna Moreno, Mike Silva, Dave Koterba, Darin Koterba and Robin Tinker; Nephew, Jaden Mikel Koterba; Cousins, David and Phillip Moreno, Alicia, Dave Jr., Darin Jr., and Christy Koterba, Heather and Dylan Tinker; and his extended family Brian and Sheryl York and the Pearland Little League; along with a host of many other family and friends.
Phillip was a joy to everyone he came in contact with and his positive outgoing personality helped him live life to the fullest. He loved Baseball, Star Wars, McDonalds, Popsicles and Pizza. Phillip was an avid reader, good student and was very proud of his perfect attendance at school. He looked up to his big brother Jeffrey and they were very close, he was his “Mini-Me” and he wanted to be just like him. One of his proudest moments was becoming, “Uncle Philly Phil” to his nephew Jaden. Phillip was always happy, friendly and thinking of others. Through this tragedy Jeff and Katrina have given hope and life to three other families by their decision to donate Phillip’s organs to other children so they can live on. They feel certain that Phillip would have wanted this. His memory will live on in his family and friends as well as those families who never met him.
The family would like to thank Coach Harry, Coach Eric, Team mom Amy Silvey, St Joseph Medical Center, P. M. Realty Group and Centerpoint Energy for all their love and support during this most difficult time. They would also like to thank the first responders Manvel Police Department, EMT’s, Stacy Bartley RN, Dr. E. Salinas and the entire 9th floor PICU staff for all their dedicated valiant effort and care to Phillip and all of our family.
