Obituary of Eudelia "Leila" Saenz Mercado

Eudelia “Leila” Saenz Mercado passed away in Houston, Texas, on Wednesday, August 21st, 2024, at the age of 64. Leila is preceded in death by her parents, Juan and Ercilia (Olivarez) Saenz. Left to cherish Leila’s memory are her husband, Joe Mercado; brothers, Frank Saenz and wife Mary Frances, and Joel Saenz and wife Mindie; sister-in-law, Lesley Sciortino and husband Joseph and sister-in-law Ana Sicola and husband Steven. Leila, who was affectionately known as "Eya", is also survived by her "Sweet Peas"; nephews, Dustin Saenz and wife Amanda, Nicholas Saenz and wife Kacey, Ross Sicola, Kyle Sicola Christopher Saenz; nieces, Danielle Aldridge and husband John, Rachel Saenz, Sarah Saenz, Samantha Saenz, and Raeley Sciortino; great nieces and nephews, Kingslei Saenz, Vincent Saenz, Carter Saenz, Jolie Saenz, Barron Saenz, Aria Aldridge, Cayson Aldridge, Hunter Martin, Amber Martin, and Aurora Arwine. She was a doting pet mom to her canine companions, Chico and Lucy; and a host of many other family and friends.

Leila was a loving wife, aunt, and friend to many people. She truly never met a stranger, and had a smile that would light up any room. Leila’s family considered her the anchor that held them together as their matriarch. She loved celebrating holidays with her family and friends. Leila also enjoyed traveling to far away beaches and places, shopping for clothes, jewelry or shoes, and generally partaking in retail therapy. Leila spent her entire working career in the insurance industry. She began with Draper and Associates straight out of high school, and she was with McGriff Insurance Services at time of death. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

A celebration of Leila’s life will be held on Thursday, August 29th, 2024, at Clayton Funeral Home of Pearland. (5530 W. Broadway St, Pearland, Texas 77581) A viewing and visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00, followed by a memorial service from 11:00 to 1:00.
