Obituary of Deborah Alfrey Flores
Deborah Alfrey Flores passed away peacefully Tuesday, August 20, 2024 at the age of 66 after a 4 year battle with breast cancer. She is preceded in death by her parents; Harry and Jean Baxter Alfrey and a brother; Vance Alfrey. Left to cherish her memory is her Husband of 38 years David Flores, and her children David Flores and Peggy Sims (Conley), brothers, David and Danny Alfrey, and her village of family and friends who helped her through treatments.
Debbie bragged that her greatest accomplishment was being a mother. She was very involved in ensuring her children’s academic success. She continually volunteered her time as class mom and helped organize fundraisers. Both of her Children attended Texas A&M University where she always joked, she should be an honorary Aggie from the work that she put in to get them there.
Debbie was devoted to her Christian faith and attended Heritage Park Baptist Church. She was part of the “Front Row Ladies” with her dear friend Debi Smith. She tried her best to attend every week when her treatments allowed. She cherished her time with her Sunday school class and the social lunches after.
Debbie had a soft spot in her heart for animals, she volunteered and fostered for a rescue, Mission for Paws. She fostered many kittens, though she was able to send most to loving families and homes, there were a few that had a special place in her heart and home. Oliver, an orange tabby, was her shadow. He was her comfort during treatments and made sure to always be by her side. During covid, Sunday school classes were held over zoom where Oliver was very popular with the ladies.
For nearly 30 years, Red River, New Mexico was Debbie’s happy place. She would spend many months of the year at the family cabin. She loved to sit on the porch and listen to the river while watching the hummingbirds. Debbie’s favorite times of the year were when the Aspen leaves changed in the fall and having white Christmas’ with her family.
Debbie’s will be remembered at a Celebration of Life at Heritage Park Church on Friday, September 6 at 6:00 PM. Friends and family are invited to attend and share their memories of this remarkable woman who touched so many lives.
