Obituary of Maria Alicia Hodges

Please share a memory of Maria to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Maria Alicia Z. Hodges, 98, of La Porte, Texas, went to be with our Lord on Sunday, September 8, 2024. Alicia was preceded in death by her parents, Juan and Damiana Zayas; daughter, Linda Lozano; siblings, Inocencia Chita Garcia, Delores “Lola” Guzman, and Sixto Sayaz; and son in law, Mark Nelson.

Alicia was proud to have raised her six children to be caring Christian adults. She will be missed by her children, Alice Whistler, James, Wally (Cecelia), Eloy, and Lulu Nelson, along with 15 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren and 18 great great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, cousins and lifelong friends.

Her children describe her as standing strong and dignified no matter the adversity she might have faced. She had spunk, was courageous and bold, yet fun loving. Maria loved Mariachi music and dancing, but most of all she loved God and her family. This is the memory by which we will always remember you, Madre Querida!

Services for Alicia will be: Visitation Friday September 20, from 6:00-8:00 PM at the Clayton Funeral Home 21 S 3rd St. La Porte. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday September 21, at 10:00 AM at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Church 816 Park Dr. La Porte. Interment will follow at Forest Park East Cemetery.
