Obituary of Lucille F. Schaider
Lucille Frances Schaider, 102, died peacefully at home in La Porte, TX, on Saturday, November 9, with her daughters by her side.
Lucille was 100% of Italian descent, the granddaughter of Italian immigrants Antonio and Pasqua Porcarello and the daughter of Madeline and Marion Polker (formerly Porcarello – the family had the name Americanized to Polker). Lucille was the third child and only daughter in her family. She was married to Emil L. Schaider for 67 years until his death in 2015. She was predeceased by her husband, parents, three brothers, and great-granddaughter, Clara Eileen Wetterauer. She is survived by her 10 children: Marianna Eggers and husband, Owen; Leonard Schaider and wife, Becky; George Schaider and wife, Stephanie; Rita Beard and husband, Jerry; Madeline Schaider and husband, Alan Blumenthal; David Schaider; Phillip Schaider and husband Sam Jimeson; Paul Schaider and wife, Elaine; Theresa Schaider and husband, Simon Sanchez; and Anna Marie Schaider, along with 14 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren (the latest born on November 4, 2024). Special thanks and deep appreciation to Audrey Sabree, who cared for her solicitously during her final years.
Lucille loved being a wife and full-time mother to her children, as well as being a wonderful cook and baker, loving all recipes Italian that were passed down from her mother and grandmother. A devout Catholic, she guided her children in her faith, as well as volunteering for 48 years for the St. Vincent de Paul organization at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in La Porte. As her children grew up and began leaving home, she also became a very active quilter, joining two separate quilting bees and gaining many friends along the way. She devoted special care to her youngest child, Anna Marie, born with Down Syndrome, and had a particular place in her heart for Holy Angels Residential Facility. Lucille was the focal point for her family and enormously enjoyed gathering everyone together for feasts and festivities.
The visitation will be 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. with a prayer service and Rosary at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 12 at St. Mary’s Church, 816 Park Drive, La Porte, TX 77571. The funeral Mass will be on Wednesday, November 13, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church with Rev. Tony Castro, pastor, presiding.
