Obituary of Debra Onita Glover
Debra “Debbie” Onita Glover was born in Hearne Texas in Robertson County seven days before Christmas on December 19, 1957 to Lillian Phillips-Glover and Alon Glover Sr. Arriving during the Christmas season, Debra was well on her way to being considered someone very special to everyone who would come to know her during her lifetime.
Debra learned to read and write earlier than most children, which instilled life-long love of knowledge. Debra excelled in her studies and graduated with honors from Franklin High School in 1977 and received scholarships to attend major universities around the nation, including the most prestigious universities in Texas, Texas A&M, UT at Austin, and Baylor. Debra chose University of Houston and went on to study Political Science and make Houston her new home.
Debra went on to work for the US Government Department of Treasury, Internal Revenue Service for 20 years before retiring because of chronic health issues. Debra was diagnosed with Chron’s Disease and later with Multiple Sclerosis which changed her life dramatically and eventually rendered her unable to walk and bed for the last decade of her life.
Debra never stopped fighting and never stopped believing God had a plan for her life and a purpose for her personal suffering. Debra spent many days in various hospitals all around the city of Houston. Everywhere she was hospitalized she was a favorite of the doctors, nurses and staff. Debra learned the fine art of how to witness about her faith by living in a way that inspired others and left them wondering what made her tick. Debra always gave God the glory for her bravery and fortitude that helped her survive many difficult medical situations.
Debra loved to cook and was a self-taught cook of professional chef level. Debra loved to entertain and prepare grand dinners and host guest for large occasions at her Houston home, and at church. Debra loved to travel and enjoyed vacationing in the sunny Caribbean islands and Mexico most of all.
Debra served in the Glenbrook Valley Civic Club and in the Helps Ministry of Calvary Houston where she was a member. Debra loved attending church, even when she became bed bound, she was glad for the opportunity to participate virtually and enjoy services from home or her hospital room.
Debra is survived by her younger sister Rebecca Glover of Pearland Texas and the many relatives of the Phillips-Glover family who now reside in Texas and California as well as the many friends and sisters and brothers in Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior that became her extended family.
