Dear Ash,
So many treasured happy memories of nearly twenty years playing rugby and growing up together.
From playing mini rugby on half a pitch, to colts and the first team at Winchester. Playing for Peter Symonds college and being selected for Hampshire together.
Years of lifts from our parents all over the south of England. Simon and I rattling about in the back of your dad’s Escort van on the way back from Devon. An entire sevens team (and subs) squeezed in my dad’s Volkswagen for the journey to Petersfield and you practicing popping your pecks in your reflection of the car window.
Simon’s Mum must have covered enough miles to get to the moon and back with us in her 2CV.
We had very successful tours in Ireland and Portugal. All great times.
Many nights in the bars of Winchester when we were at college.
The allure of the shiny cutlery in Shuels Balti house and bringing your own kebab to the tandoori centre on Jewry Street. Inviting me round to your Mums on Christmas Days and warming up Sake with Chas, I’ve never drunk it since!.
The sheer excitement on your face every time the last song at a rugby club disco was Denys Midnight Runners, Come On Eileen, with some questionable dancing.
Everything with a smile on your face accompanied by much laughter.
It was a privilege to have known you and an honour to call you my friend.
Sending all my love to your family.
Godspeed Flash, till we meet again.

So many good times with Ash...
Partying in Houston, encountering Christopher Biggins together in Edinburgh, 3am drinking in Reno, lovely dinner together with Dani in Hampton… the list goes on…
Ash was so positive and full of life, always making time for us. He was respected by everyone at work and the trading world and a privilege to have spent the time we did with him.
We will hold onto all the fond memories.

To my Best Friend 'Flash',
I loved you like a brother.
My heart has a giant hole in it.
Although you are gone, you will always be with me.
You fought the good fight.
The good Lord has called you home.
So be well, my friend.
Til I see you again.
This is our last goodbye.
Until we meet again. Bruiser.

I met Ash in 1995 at Winchester Commodities, even then at a fairly young age he was a larger than life, exuberant character full of energy, fun and laughter. He was always so optimistic, bright and great fun to be around. Time spent with Ash was certainly never uneventful. Unfortunately after 1998 I lost touch with him and saw him for the last time at Winchester Rugby club in 2022, meeting him then he made me feel as though we had seen each other half an hour earlier. He was a very special, unique bloke. I feel very privileged to have known him and will miss him enormously.

Ash, your smile will always be imprinted on my mind. It’s the picture I always saw when I thought of you and if anyone talked of you. Thank you for your friendship, for being there when I needed a friend. It’s beyond cruel what’s happened and words can’t fill the gap you’ve left in so, so many lives - let alone Dani and your children’s. You live on in them & Ive no doubt you will always be near them.
You succeeded your dreams and hopes in America.
The impact you had on people is reflected on the memories you have left in people.
You are a good guy , and you will be missed.
Fly high mister. xxx

I will always remember Ashton so very fondly, though I saw him only infrequently- as a cute baby at his christening when I was his godmother, as a preschool aged wee boy when I visited Lourdes, in later years as a handsome, successful, charming and entertaining young man at Lourdes 60th birthday celebration and at the christening of his lovely daughters in Ireland. I know from Lourdes’ updates about him over the years that he was someone who attacked, devoured and enjoyed life to the max and that he will be sorely missed by so many people.
