Obituary of Betty Maude Dawdy
Betty Maude Dawdy passed away on Friday, January 31st, 2025, at the age of 96. She is preceded in death by her parents, George and Myrtle (Adams) Tones; three husbands, J.R. Armstrong Jr, Ray Engel, and Bill Dawdy; daughter, Cynthia Armstrong; and brother, George “Buddy” Tones. Left to cherish Betty’s memory are her sons, David Armstrong and wife Stephanie, and Kenneth Armstrong; daughters, Vivian Skidmore and husband John, and Judy Fore and husband Bryan; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild, with one more on the way; and a host of many other family and friends.
Betty was the true matriarch of her family and set a shining example for them to follow. Affectionately known as “Granny” by her family, she was strong in her faith throughout her life. Betty lost three husbands, and a daughter, but her faith and her family gave her the strength to make it through those difficult times. She truly enjoyed spending time with her family, especially during the holidays. Betty also enjoyed traveling, fishing, crafting, sewing, quilting, and playing cards or dominos. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
