Obituary of Helen Marie Driskill
Helen Marie Cox Driskill, 89, of Angleton passed away Thursday, March 27, 2025, in Angleton, Texas. A private memorial will be held April 26, 2025, at Clayton Funeral Home in Pearland with Pastor David Smith officiating.
Mrs. Driskill was born July 3, 1935, in San Angelo, Texas, to George Milburn and Josephine Stuart Cox. She graduated from Eden High School & after graduation, attended San Angelo College where she met & married the love of her life, Mr. Modie L. Driskill, on September 3, 1954. The couple moved frequently in their early years, living in San Angelo, Lubbock, Midland, Victoria, McCamey, Eden, Huntsville & Sugarland, Texas. The Driskill’s moved to Angleton in 1967 when Modie was hired by Dow Chemical. In 1974, they opened Driskill Clock Service which they operated for many years in downtown Angleton.
In 1988 the couple retired to their Windmill Creek Ranch in Eden, Texas, where Mrs. Driskill started a new career running the Eden Community Center. Then in the early 2000’s they returned to Angleton to live out the remaining years of their lives.
Mrs. Driskill moved to Country Village in 2011 after her beloved’s passing and started her final career in everything Yoyo as she was not one to be idle.
In her early life, Helen loved horses and horseback riding. As a wife & mother, she loved cooking, making candy, pies, & cakes. She was a meticulous housekeeper and was known as “Vacuuming Velma” to her family. She was also an incredible seamstress making most of the families’ clothes as well as costumes for clients. She loved reading, solving puzzles, doing handcrafts, & spending time with family.
She was small in stature but quite tenacious about what she put her mind to. For Mrs. Driskill the hardships and setbacks in life weren’t the end of the road, they were just bumps in the road, a part of life and when faced with them she would always say “life has its challenges, this is just another thing I’ll have to work through”. And that she always amazingly did: we called her the Energizer Bunny because no matter what…. she just kept going and going and going.
Her trademarks were her positive attitude, compassionate heart, and sweet spirit. To know her was to love and be loved by her. The love she so freely shared impacted all those she came in contact with and that and her presence will sorely be missed.
She absolutely squeezed every last drop out of the life God gave her; she now walks with Jesus with a straight back and working hands finally free of her ailing body.
Mrs. Driskill was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brothers: Stuart Cox, Don Cox, James Cox and Mike Cox; sister Peggy Jo Cox; and grandson Neil Hammond.
Survivors include children H. Wayne Driskill (Vanessa) of Pearland, Debbie Driskill of Iola, Barbara Driskill Marin (Ray) of Angleton, Ronda Driskill Sheive (Perry) of Aubrey and John C. Driskill (Carolyn) of Sargent; grandchildren Jennifer Lomas, Jamie Gressett (Kevin), Derek Lomas (Sarah), James Driskill (Chloe), Nikki Browning (Corey), Jill Thomas (Marlon)., Austin Driskill (Heaven), Erick Sheive (Allison), Bryan Sheive, Sydney Thibodeaux, Nick Driskill (Madeline) and thirteen great-grandchildren.
