Obituary of Wonda Jo Stone

Wonda Jo Stone, 78, of La Porte, TX, passed away after a lengthy illness on May 14, 2025.  

Preceded in death is her son, William Stone, her parents, Winfred and Juanita Anderson, her brother, Roger Anderson and her niece, Jennifer Anderson.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband, Howard Stone, daughter, Mondee Stone, her “second daughter” Shannon Osborne, grandchildren, Heather and Michael Gutierrez, Taylor Stone and Laik Dugue, great-grandchildren, Brooks and Harry Gutierrez, daughter-in-law, Lisa Stone, sister and brother-in-law, Kathy Anderson and Troy Raskin, brother and sister-in-law, Johnny and Linda Anderson, sister-in-law, Katherine Anderson, numerous nieces, nephews, friends, and her home healthcare provider, Ashleigh Kettler, who quickly became her “bestie”. 

Born on January, 24, 1947 at home in Honey Island, TX, Wonda grew up in the rural parts of East Texas. She moved with her family to California, where she took a job in a department store. This is where she met Howard, who also moved across the country from New Jersey. The couple fell in love and married in California. Over the next few years, they had two children, William and Mondee, who Wonda says were the loves of her life. The family of four traveled the U.S., living in various parts of California, Arkansas, and Florida. They ultimately settled down in La Porte, Texas where they raised both children. Wonda worked as a store manager at Weiner’s Department Store and was promoted to Senior Auditor until her retirement. At that time, she and her husband, Howard, purchased an RV and traveled the U.S. again and enjoyed the adventures the RV afforded them as a retired couple.

Wonda loved to be surrounded by her friends and family and would often go out to eat, tell stories, shop, read, and travel, but cherished her role as a grandmother and a “nona” the best.  Wonda was loved and valued by her friends and family. Her generosity and concern for others will be greatly missed.
