Obituary of Ivory Joe Hamilton
Ivory Joe Hamilton, 66, was taken out of the flesh, peacefully on Thursday, May 15, after a courageous battle with dementia. His strength, kindness, and unwavering love for his family will forever be cherished by those who knew him.
Ivory was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Howard and Helen Hamilton, his sister Sarah Hamilton Griffin, and his brother Howard Hamilton Jr. He leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion, survived by his wife of 28 wonderful years, Shannon Hamilton; his cherished children, Ivory Hamilton Jr. and Ashley Hamilton; and his dear siblings, Zelda Carmon, Linda Hamilton Jones, Raymond Hamilton and his wife Emily, and Tyrone Hamilton. He will also be lovingly remembered by a host of family members and friends whose lives he touched.
Ivory attended Trinity High School in Trinity, Texas (Home of the Trinity Tigers).
After graduating high school, Ivory attended Prairie View A&M University, where he pursued his passion for sports, playing both football and baseball. His football career was cut short due to a concussion, but his love for the game never faded. Those that know Ivory know that he was a huge Washington Commanders fan. Ivory earned a degree in Agriculture, believing his path would lead him to the “Country Life.”
However, life had other plans. Upon graduating, Ivory began his career at Shell Oil Company, where he encountered an unexpected surprise on his first day—he thought he’d be working outdoors, only to find out his role was inside. Those who knew Ivory understood that no matter where life took him, he remained a country boy at heart.
Following his time at Shell Oil Company, Ivory embarked on a distinguished career with the Houston Police Department. He began as a Senior Computer Operator and, through hard work and commitment, rose to Office Supervisor in the Risk Management Division. Over his 25 years of service, Ivory’s dedication and leadership made a lasting impact. He retired on April 1, 2020, leaving behind a legacy of excellence and integrity.
Ivory was drawn to the Institute of Divine Metaphysical Research (IDMR) by the Creator of heaven and earth, where he is known by the Creator in spirit and truth. His faith remained steadfast, and he remained a devoted member throughout his life. Even after his diagnosis with dementia, Ivory never wavered in his belief, often expressing with certainty that it is "The Dr. Kinley Show.”
A celebration of Ivory’s life will be held at Clayton Funeral Home (5530 W. Broadway, Pearland TX, 77581) on Saturday, June 14th. Ivory’s family will receive guests from 10 to 11 am, and the service will begin at 11 am.
