Obituary of Juanita Arreguin Flores
Juanita “Janie” Flores Arreguin passed away on Tuesday, June 17th, 2025, at the age of 90. She is preceded in death by her parents, Pedro and Cleofas Arreguin; loving husband, Jose G. Flores; daughter, Rose Mary Flores; brother, Pedro Arreguin; and grandchild, Stephanie Dawn Flores. Janie leaves behind to cherish her memory, her sons, Jose G. Flores III and wife Wanda, Anthony Flores and wife Stacia, and Richard Flores; daughters, Carmen J. Flores and Sandra Garcia; seventeen grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and a host of many other family and friends.
Born July 19th, 1934, in Galveston, Texas, Janie brought strength, perseverance, and courage from the beginning. She was raised in the depression era in Galveston, Texas with her parents and brother. She would often talk about how her father worked for the railroad and they didn’t have much.
Janie was a U.S. Army wife and raised 5 children in the Houston suburbs in the 60’s. When Grandad came home from serving in the Korean war, they made their home in Pearland, Texas, in 1972 where the core of the family roots were put down.
Janie was a faithful member of St. Helen Catholic Church in Pearland, Texas, for over 50 years. She served in several ministries such as the Catholic Daughters, The Guadalupanas, Eucharistic Minister, Super Seniors, Church Bazaar and many more. She was also one of the first group of seniors who attended the Senior Knapp Center and became a staple in event planning and fundraising. This was her pass time as she enjoyed hanging out with her friends. She was also crowned Snow Queen for the Pearland Winter Fest, she enjoyed wearing a blinged out crown.
A true matriarch, Janie was the cornerstone of her family, and with the strong character she embodied she passed this strength on to her kids and grandkids. In their own way they all have a piece of her within them, whether its humor, strength, courage, or perseverance.
She loved to cook but also loved to eat and would often make requests for special foods. Her love for food was the hot topic in her life. She would always have a hot meal ready at her kitchen table for anyone who visited her. Her house was considered “Grand Central Station” her home was always open to family, friends, and relatives who needed a place to stay.
Janie loved to dress in bright, colorful clothes and always had her fingernails painted to match the season. She wore colorful hats, sparkly jewelry, big earrings and rings and shoes with rhinestones.
Her grandkids, friends and family were drawn to her witty humor and storytelling. She was a natural comic and loved to make people laugh. She had a quick wit and had a knack for a one liner that you didn’t see coming. There wasn’t a stranger she couldn’t make smile.
Grandma, as many of us called her, was strong and spicy and she will be remembered as such. There is no other “Grandma” like her.
