Robert A. “Bob” Laird, 86, passed away on June 11, 2011. Bob was born in Alexandria, La. on April 10, 1925. He moved to Houston in 1927 with his parents Robert L. and Marie (Moulle’) Laird and brother Jules. Bob is survived by his loving wife of over 60 years, Margaret Laird; his children Robert G. Laird (Maggie), Kathleen Stark, Richard J. Laird (Donna), Suzie D. Fleming (Matt), and James P. Laird (Lela) and; grandchildren, Gwen Laird, Shawna Laird (Chaz Mahon), Robert Stark (Marcie), Jay Stark (Ashli), Richard Laird Jr. (Katherine), Ryan Laird (Cassondra), Sarah T. Laird, Amanda Vacek (Jeff), Stephanie Cole (Jason), and Virginia M. Fleming, Jimmy Laird, and Shelby Laird; and eleven great grandchildren; Robbie, Willie and Melanie Stark; Becca and Daniel Laird; Johnathan and Haleigh Stark; Matthew, Emma and Hannah Vacek; and Everett Cole. Bob, a Country Place resident for 13 years, enjoyed his retirement playing golf, and the social activities there. He loved keeping up with the grandchildren and great grandchildren and was affectionately known as “Dadaw” to all of them. Bob was a graduate of St. Thomas High School in 1943. He also cherished his Louisiana roots and loved Cajun food. He always had an appreciation for baseball and worked as an office manager for the Houston Buffs. Bob and Margaret enjoyed traveling all over: Alaska, the Canadian Rockies, Hawaii, through the Panama Canal, the Caribbean, New England, Switzerland and frequent road trips to Louisiana. He loved Big Band music and New Orleans Jazz. He was a Navy Veteran of WWII and served as an Aviation Machinist. He retired from ILA Local #1351 after 35 years. He will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved him. A visitation for Bob will be held on Wednesday, June 15, 2011 from 6:00 until 8:00 pm with a Rosary recited at 7:00 pm at Clayton Funeral Home, 5530 W. Broadway, Pearland, TX 77581. The Funeral Mass will be Thursday, June 16, 2011 at 10:00 am at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, 6502 County Road 48, Manvel, TX 77578, followed by a luncheon at the Church Hall. Interment will take place at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery. His grandsons will serve as Pall Bearers. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bob’s honor to the American Lung Association.
