Obituary of Iris Francis Perkins

Iris Francis Isdale Perkins, 95, passed away on August 2, 2011. Iris was born on June 8, 1916 in DeQuincy, Louisiana. She is preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Alma Isdale (DeQuincy); husband of 62 years, Donald Perkins (Vidor), brothers, Jewel Isdale (Mansfield, LA) and Hamilton “Hamp” Isdale (DeQuincy), sister, Lillian Isdale Perkins (Baton Rouge); daughter-in-law, Linda Perkins; and nephew, Kenneth Perkins (Westlake, LA). Iris is survived by her children, Iris Perkins Ball (Trinity, TX) and Jack Perkins (Pearland, TX); grandchildren, Paige Susan Ball and Susan Royce Ball (Trinity), Jerry Perkins and his wife, Jamie (Alvin, TX), and Leigh Perkins (Alvin); great-grandson Jaxon Perkins; and a host of many other family and friends.
Iris graduated from DeQuincy High School at the age of 15, received teaching credentials from Louisiana State Normal at the age of 17, and received a BA from the University of Houston while teaching and raising a family. She lived her childhood dreams of being a Second Grade teacher, and retired from Oak Forest Elementary (Vidor) after 37 years of teaching. She also received the Teacher of the Year Award in 1965, from the Vidor Independent School District. Iris loved collecting roosters of all kinds; from rooster napkin rings, to ceramic roosters she had on the windowsills. She could never have enough roosters around the house. Iris was active in her local church and in many civic organizations and traveled extensively. Donald and Iris always took several road trips with their children to Colorado and Yellowstone Park. Iris, her sister and niece took a trip to Germany when Jack was stationed there and traveled all over Europe. Iris was a wonderful wife, mother and Granny to her entire family and will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved her.
Visitation will be on Saturday, August 6, 2011 at 9:00 am at Pecan Acres Baptist Church in Vidor, TX with the Funeral Service following at 11:00 am. Graveside services will take place at 3:00 pm at Rigmaiden Cemetery in DeQuincy, LA.
