Vinnie Ream Ashmun Plummer, 90, passed away on July 16, 2012. She is preceded in death by her parents, Tom and Edna Milton; husbands, Hugh Jones Plummer and Harry Ashmun; one brother and two sisters. Vinnie is survived by her son, Hugh “Pete” Plummer and wife Judy; daughter, Diana Lynn Knutzen and husband, Douglas; grandchildren, Hugh J. Plummer, Jr. and wife, Allyson, Gill Owen Plummer and wife, Bre, D.J. Knutzen and wife, Nadia; great grandchildren, Charlotte Tracy Plummer, Ellie Anton Plummer, Hugh J, Plummer IV, Madelaine Lola Plummer, William Randolph Plummer, Colton Howard; step daughters, Ardella Sasse and husband, Bruce, Jean Dunham and husband, Bill, Renita Havey and husband Bill; step son, Cliff Ashmun and wife, Donna; step grandchildren, Selina Dwight, Shawn Sasse and husband, John Cooksey, Jennifer LeBlanc, Tre Dunham, Travis Ashmun, Adam Ashmun, and Kristina Lown; step great grandchildren, Haley Dwight, Taylor Dwight, will Dwight, Payton Dwight, Quinton Dwight, Bria Havey, Emily Havey, Jared Ashmun, Kyle Ashmun, Reagan Ashmun; and a host of other family and friends. Vinnie was born on October 17, 1921 and raised on a ranch in McDade, Texas. She went to high school in Elgin and was a cheerleader there. She was working for the telephone company in Houston when she met and married Bud (Hugh) Plummer. When Bud died in 1954, Vinnie went to work at Phil Rich Fan Co. rising to office manager. Later she served as budget director for Mitchell Development Corporation. Vinnie brought intelligence, skill and laughter to her many jobs as wife, mother and employee. She raised her family alone and overcame many obstacles as a single mother. She was admired for her strength, wit and tenacity. She successfully reared and educated her two children. She later met and was happily married to Harry Ashmun for 25 years and welcomed his family into her life. She and Harry traveled extensively. They were devoted to each other in their later years, caring for each other’s health. Vinnie will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved her. The funeral service for Vinnie will be held on Monday, July 23, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Thomas of Canterbury Church located at 14007 South Freeway at Beltway in Houston, Texas, with Father Jim Payne officiating. Private family Interment will follow at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery.
