Bettie is also survived by her brother George Martinsen, Jr., and wife Nancy, numerous nephews, neices and a host of close friends and extended family. One of the most extraordinary women anyone could have ever had the opportunity to have come in contact with. Bettie was genuinely a caring and generous person. For anyone who had the chance to even meet her, you had a true friend for life. Bettie had a generous amount of extended family and children from all walks of life. She never turned anyone away. If she had it, she gave it, and if she didn’t, she would take any means necessary to make things happen. Bettie’s Catholic Faith was truly undeniable. She was a member of many organizations including The Legion of Mary, Red Cross Volunteer, Right to Life Pro Life Advocate, drove a food truck to deliver hot meals during Tropical Storm Allison, was a member of the Civic Club for her neighborhood, and was a Precinct Election Judge for her area. Bettie gave up her retirement and raised three of her grandaughters, adopting one, and was currently raising a great granddaughter when she was diagnosed with cancer. Bettie was truly a giving mother to many and she loved all of her children dearly. She made no bones about giving her opinion and she certainly let us know when we were wrong, Funny thing was, she was usually right although we hated to admit it. She will be greatly missed but we take comfort in knowing that she is at peace and is watching over all of us. Please remember her in your daily prayers. The family would like to extend their thanks for the love and support that has been shown by so many. Visitation for Bettie will be on Sunday, September 21, 2008, from 4 pm to 6 pm at Clayton Funeral Home with the Rosary being recited at 5 pm. The Mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday, September 22, 2008, at 11:00 am at St. Christopher’s Catholic Church, 8150 Park Place Blvd., Houston, TX 77017, 713-645-6614.
