Donald “D.K.” Kenneth Baker, 84, passed away on July 7, 2013. He is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Alice Baker; son, Allie Richardson; daughter, Terry Marie Mordente; brother, Aubrey Baker; sisters, Inez Schultz and Janice Fulton. D.K. is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Joan Baker; son, Lynn Richardson; daughters, Lee Ann Carroll, Patricia Lynn Renfroe; brother, Frank J. Baker Jr. and wife, Tommy; sister, Janet Gilbert and husband, Gerald; twenty grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren and a host of other family and friends.
D.K. proudly served his country in the United States Army in Germany during 1946. He returned to the States and graduated from the University of Houston Welding School in 1950. D.K. was a “jack –of-all trades” and worked in many jobs throughout his life; from operating the draw bridge in Sargent, Texas for Matagorda County to rough-necking in the oil fields. He also worked for many years with Falstaff Brewery in Galveston and was even self-employed for a period of time as a master plumber. D.K. was a charter member of the Pearland VFW Post 7109, a master mason with the CF Spencer Masonic Lodge. He was the Worshipful Master of the Lodge in 1989-1990. D.K. also served as Worthy Patron of the Order of Eastern Star, was a member of the Arabian Shrine Club and member of the Pearland United Methodist Church. Throughout his life and many activities, D.K. always enjoyed spending time with his family and loved to fish. He will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved him.
A visitation for D.K. will be held on Tuesday, July 9, 2013 from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at Clayton Funeral Home, 5530 W. Broadway, Pearland, Texas 77581. The funeral service will take place on Wednesday, July 10, 2013 at 10:00 am with Rev. Zach McCoy and Rev. Dr. Bob Joiner officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at SouthPark Cemetery.
