Please share a memory of Sidney to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Sidney William Eakin, Jr., 90, of Pearland, Texas, passed away Wednesday, September 11, 2013. He was born to Bertha and Sidney Eakin, Sr. on January 5, 1923 in Waterproof, Louisiana. Sid is preceded in death by parents Bertha and Sidney Eakin, Sr., and wife Goldie Herring. He married the late Emma Frances “Annie” Peschka and lived together at Country Place in Pearland, Texas. Sid is survived by sister and brother-in-law Marlene and Carl Mitchell, Sr., their children Carl Mitchell, Jr. and his wife Robin, Sidney Myron Mitchell, and Nancy Mollard and her husband Dwayne, stepson Tommy Lee Peschka and his wife Karen; also survived by great nieces and nephews Courtney Mitchell, Andrea Mollard, Christopher Mitchell, and Garrett Mitchell; and a host of other family and friends.
Sid graduated from Livingston High School in 1941 and proudly served in the United States Navy from 1942 until 1946. He worked as a machine shop foreman at Hughes Tool Company and retired after 43.5 years, in February 1985. Sid had a great sense of humor, enjoyed by his family and friends, quickly putting smiles on the faces of those caring for him. He was an avid fisherman, enjoying much of his post-retirement years fishing and spending time with friends and family at the family bay house on Galveston Island. One of his favorite things to do was to listen to the 4 AM fishing forecast on the radio. He enjoyed playing golf at Country Place after moving there in 1989 with wife Annie. If an Astros or Texans game was broadcast on TV, he would not miss it. Sid will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved him.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to your charity of choice.
The Memorial Service and celebration of Sid’s life will be held at Clayton Funeral Home, 5530 W. Broadway (FM 518), Pearland, Texas, on September 28, 2013 at 2:00 pm with Pastor Jim Overton officiating. A reception for family and friends will be held immediately after the service.
