Obituary of Teixeira da Silva

Gilda Maria Teixeira da Silva, M.D., 46 of Pearland, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on October 21, 2013. She is preceded in death by her father, Jose Teixeira. Gilda is survived by her mother, Palmira da Silva Lobo; her loving husband, Dr. Ivo Tremont; daughters, Jilia and Stephanie Tremont; sister, Yelia Fernandes; aunt, Gilda da Silva and a host of other family and friends. Gilda was born to humble beginnings of Portuguese farmers on the island of Madeira. Her family migrated with her at an early age to Venezuela. Gilda was an excellent student and excelled in school, where she went on to receive her medical degree and become a physician in Caracas, Venezuela in 1993. While working in the hospital together, Ivo and Gilda met and fell in love. They married in 1995 and shortly after, Gilda encouraged Ivo to accept a fellowship in the United States to help create a better life for their family. Gilda practiced family medicine in Minnesota and South Carolina where she developed a close bond with all of her patients and loved helping others. Her entire life was about working hard and making sacrifices to create a better life for her family. Gilda’s focus after being diagnosed with breast cancer in 2007 was about living life to the fullest and spending quality time with her family. She was very involved in her daughter’s many activities and cherished their family trips. Gilda will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved her. A Memorial Mass for Gilda will be held on Friday, October 25, 2013 at 4:00 pm at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 6800 Buffalo Speedway, Houston, Texas 77025 with Msgr. William L. Young officiating.
