Merritt “Spud” Miller Jr., 83, of Pearland, passed away on Wednesday, October 30, 2013. He is preceded in death by his parents, Merritt and Lida Miller; and brother, Harris Miller. Spud is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Mildred Miller; son, Robert Miller and wife, Karen; daughters, Marian Miller and Juliene Kelsey; sister, Helen Olson; grandchildren, Jennifer Torres, Kelly Eggers and husband, James, Joseph Miller and wife, Danielle, Nick Sughroue and wife, Vickie, Sarah Sughroue; great grandchildren, Samantha, Tyler, Joshua, Mackenzie; and a host of other family and friends. Spud grew up on a farm in Illinois and had many adventures with his three best friends who were all known as “The Shed House 4.” He worked his entire life in lumberyards and loved to tell stories about unloading boxcars. Spud loved his wife, Mildred dearly and devoted his life to her. He had the special gift of never meeting a stranger and could take longer than anyone to run to the store for a gallon of milk because he always had to chat with everyone he met. Spud enjoyed sharing stories about his old dog, Rags and was truly an animal lover, especially bulldogs and pugs. He will forever be remembered for his infectious laugh, telling jokes and reminiscing about the “old days.” Spud will greatly be missed by all that knew and loved him. A Memorial Service for Spud will be held on Sunday, November 3, 2013 at 3:00 pm at Clayton Funeral Home, 5530 W. Broadway, Pearland, Texas 77581 with Pastor Keith Anderson officiating.
