Obituary of Joyce Lanel Overstreet

Joyce “Lanel” Overstreet, 51, passed away on Thursday, April 10, 2014. She is preceded in death by her father, Charles Shifflett and grandfather, Robert Jackson. Lanel is survived by her mother, Joyce P. Shifflett; grandmother, Freda Jackson; loving husband of 15 years, James Overstreet; daughter, Jamie Lanel Overstreet; stepsons, Kenneth and James Overstreet; stepdaughter, Halie Overstreet; very close and lifelong special sisters, Stephanie Whittington and Stacy David; grandsons, Ezekiel and Gaven Overstreet; and a host of other family and friends. Lanel was raised in Texas City. She was always happy, loved to laugh and enjoyed life. Lanel never met a stranger and would do anything for her family and friends. She loved being a mom and was very close to her “Baby Girl” Jamie. Lanel was considered the unspoken matriarch of her family who always kept the family together with her love and support of everyone. She enjoyed crafts, art projects and doing many things for her family and friends. Lanel was affectionately known to many as “Aunt Nell” and she will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved her. A visitation for Lanel will be held on Tuesday, April 15, 2014 from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at Clayton Funeral Home, 5530 W. Broadway, Pearland, Texas 77581. The funeral service will take place on Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at 12:30 pm at the funeral home with Russell McLaughlin of Midway Church of Christ officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Park East Cemetery in Webster, Texas.
