Obituary of Gloria Jean Castro
Please share a memory of Gloria to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
On April 24, 2014, God’s angels took home one of their own. Gloria Jean Castro, beloved daughter, sister, aunt and friend passed peacefully from this life at her home in Pearland, Texas. Born March 29, 1952, Gloria grew up in Houston, attended Milby Senior High, and went on to attend the University of Texas and the University of Houston, earning both a B.A. and M.B.A. Her careers included business, government service, and education, and she retired in 2013 after almost twenty years as a member of the Harris County Community Supervision and Corrections Department, where she made many friends and touched many lives. Gloria enjoyed painting, photography, and travel, never failing to see and appreciate the beauty she found in the world around her. She was kind, generous, patient, and giving, had many friends and never met a stranger. She was also courageous, determined and strong. Above all, she was a loving daughter and companion to her mother, a ‘second mother’ to her siblings and nephews, and a bulwark of our family. Her lovely smile, her easy laugh, and her gentle nature will be sorely missed and long remembered.
Gloria is preceded in death by her father, Leonel B. Castro, and survived by her mother Alice G. Castro, sister Anna Nys and brother-in-law Pierre Nys, sister Dr. Melinda Jean Castro and fiancé Dr. Andrzej Janecki, brother Lionel J. Castro, nephews Laurance Nys and Christopher Castro, loving aunt Jessie Castro, companion and friend Craig Keppler, and many others who knew and loved her.
A Rosary and Funeral Mass for Gloria will take place on Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at St. Helen Catholic Church, 2209 Old Alvin Road, Pearland, TX 77581 with Father James Courville officiating. The Rosary will begin at 9:45 am and the Funeral Mass will follow at 10:00 am. Interment will follow at SouthPark Cemetery in Pearland, Texas.
