Catherine Bennett Witt, 92, passed away on Wednesday, June 18, 2014. She is preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Bernice Bennett; her loving husband of 62 years, Alfred David Witt; daughter, Jan Witt Doyle; brother, Lawrence Bennett Jr.; son-in-law, John Glenn Keith; as well as her special aunts. Catherine is survived by her daughters, Betsy Witt and Mary Witt Keith; grandchildren, April Keith and Britni Keith Slack; great grandson, Robby Slack; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of other family and friends.
Catherine grew up in South Glens Falls, New York and proudly served her country in the United States Navy as a Yeoman 1st Class during World War II. She served two tours of duty and it was during her second tour that she met David. They would marry in 1952 and raise three daughters in South Glens Falls before moving to Texas in 1960. Catherine worked for the United States Post Office for 20 years before retiring. She was very athletic and played basketball and softball and enjoyed bowling in leagues. Catherine and David loved to travel all over the country. She grew up Catholic and was strong in her faith. Catherine was affectionately known as “Mother” and “Nana” to her family and always looked forward to her trips to South Carolina to visit her daughter. She was especially close to her granddaughters and her great grandson, Robby. Catherine will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved her.
A Visitation and Rosary for Catherine will be held on Tuesday, June 24, 2014 at Clayton Funeral Home, 5530 W. Broadway, Pearland, Texas 77581. The visitation will take place from 5:00 until 8:00 pm with the Rosary recited at 6:00 pm. A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, June 25, 2014 at 10:00 am at St. Helen Catholic Church, 2209 Old Alvin Rd., Pearland, Texas 77581, with Father James Courville officiating.
