Obituary of Gilbert Dale Riggs

Gilbert Dale Riggs passed away Saturday, January 28, 2006 at the age of 67 years. He was born September 16, 1938 in Blue Ash, Ohio to Malcolm and Uva Steele Riggs.
The family moved to Texas in 1947 and Gilbert attended Pearland schools, graduating from PHS in 1956. Gilbert was an avid sports fan. He enlisted in the United States Air Force and served in the 60th Fighter Interceptor Squadron at Otis Air Force Base in Falmouth, Massachusetts. He returned to Pearland in 1961 after receiving an Honorable Discharge. He was baptized into Christ in 1974. He was employed as a Senior Corrosion Technician by Houston Pipeline Company, which subsequently became Enron Corporation, retiring in 1993.
Preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Harold Riggs of St. Petersburg, Florida, Gilbert is survived by his wife, Brenda Riggs; daughter, Sharyl Taylor and her husband, Steve, of Pearland; two sons, Marc Riggs, of Pearland and Gilbert Dale Riggs, Jr., of Santa Fe, New Mexico; granddaughter, Theressa Riggs, of Clear Lake City, who they raised as their own; brother, Carlos Riggs and his wife, Shirley, of Manvel; grandchildren, April, Lexie, Martin and Autumn Taylor, of Pearland and Gilbert Dale Riggs, III, of Austin; great-grandson, Phillip Gerber, of Clear Lake City; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 3:00 PM Thursday, February 2, 2006, at Clayton Funeral Home, 5530 W. Broadway, Pearland. Graveside services and interment will follow at 3:00 PM, at SouthPark Cemetery in Pearland, with Brother D. C. Brown, minister of Pearland Church of Christ officiating. Honorary pallbearers are, Phillip Riggs, Joel Riggs, Gilbert Riggs, III and Martin Taylor.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or to the Medina Children’s Home.
