Abe C. Chavez, 72, passed away on Monday, June 30, 2014. He is preceded in death by his parents, Abraham and Cresencia Chavez and former wife, Gilda LaVictoria Chavez. Abe is survived by his loving current wife of 24 years, Edna Chavez; son, Christopher Chavez; daughters, Anna Bodine and husband, Donovon, Crestina Hardie and husband, Chris; brother, Beltran Chavez and wife, Virginia; grandchildren, Alexa, Liliana, Ava, Evangeline, Abigael, and one on the way; and a host of other family and friends. Abe was born in Negros Occidental, Philippines. He moved to the United States after college, where he worked as an accountant for more than 40 years in Austin and Houston, Texas. Anyone who knew recognized he worked to live. Abe loved fishing whether he was looking for his favorite freshwater fishing hole or going to Galveston to saltwater fish. His affinity for travel took him to all fifty states as well as many countries around the world. Abe spent many evenings playing mahjong and poker. It’s hard not to remember Abe without a microphone in his hand singing karaoke or out on the dance floor ballroom or line dancing. He lived life to the fullest, had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh. His granddaughters affectionately knew him as “Lolo”; he cherished spending time with them. Abe considered being a grandfather his crowning achievement. Family came first. Abe was strong in his faith and he served many roles as a parishioner of St. Helen Catholic Church. He served as an usher and a member of the Pastoral Council. Abe was a founding member of St. Helen’s Kislap NG STA Elena – an organization focused on promoting Filipino culture and spirituality. He created the academic achievement awards for the group and dedicated much of his time to its success. Faith, family and friends encompassed his life. He will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved him. A visitation and Rosary will be held for Abe on Friday, July 4, 2014 at Clayton Funeral Home, 5530 W. Broadway, Pearland, TX 77581. The visitation will be held from 5:00 until 8:00 pm with the Rosary recited at 6:00 pm.
