Obituary of John Warren Hargrove

John Warren Hargrove, of Pearland, Texas, born April 2, 1935, passed away July 20, 2014, at Methodist Hospital. He was born on a farm near El Dorado Springs, Missouri, the first child of Howard and Helen Hargrove. He is survived by his wife Sally, of the home, son Dan Hargrove (Sugar Land, TX) and daughter Sabra Hargrove and husband Larry Jones (Seabrook, TX), stepchildren, Trey Dent, Stephen Dent and wife, Laurie, Andrew Dent and wife, Ria; four grandchildren—Morgan and Chris Hargrove and Moriah and Vincent Hargrove Anders; step grandchildren, Danielle, Desire, Jesse and Michelle Dent, Glenna Chisholm, Whittie and Digby Dent; brother C. William Hargrove and wife Ermile (Kaneohe, HI) and sister R. Carol Culp and husband Rolland (Asheville, NC), and former wife Carol Ann Sharp. He was predeceased by both parents and his brother Elmer O. Hargrove and wife Patricia. After ten years of farm life, John moved to Lawrence, Kansas, attended public schools and graduated from The University of Kansas in 1959 with a degree in business. He later earned his Professional Civil Engineering Certification while working for the U.S. Forest Service in Washington. John’s initiative and deep sense of responsibility surfaced early in his life as he worked as a paperboy and later as assistant printer in the local print shop. Other interests included playing in a community baseball league, building and flying model airplanes, and participating in the Boy Scouts, where he achieved the rank of Eagle Scout at the same ceremony as his brothers, a feat for which he was responsible. This defined the man he would become. Among his many interests were flying with the Faith flying club, piloting his Cessna, sailing his Dragonfly, attempting to dissect what is wrong with the Houston Texans, and debating the world with the guys at the amen table at Faith Lutheran Church. His pride in his children and grandchildren was boundless as he avidly followed their pursuits. John held three professional positions that gave him great satisfaction—the U.S. Forest Service , Boeing Company, and the City of Pearland. While employed as the City of Pearland Engineer, he designed and managed the project of building the environmental waste management treatment facility which he was honored to have named for him. Visitation will be at Clayton Funeral Home, 5530 West Broadway, Pearland, TX 77581 on Wednesday, July 23, 2014, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 26, 2014, at Faith Lutheran Church, 4600 Bellaire Boulevard, Bellaire, TX at 2:00 p.m. Memorial gifts are welcome for the Parkinson’s Foundation or the Faith Lutheran Church.
