SSgt. John Michael "Mike" Siggins, 26, died Saturday, July 8, 2006 in Tucson, Arizona. Mike was born October 2, 1979 in Houston, Texas to John R. Siggins and Sonia C. Reyes Blankenship. He graduated from Clear Brook High School in 1998 and attended Stephen F. Austin University in Nacogdoches, Texas. Mike enlisted in the United States Air Force on June 23, 1999 and proudly served his country for over 6 years. Mike graduated from Basic Military Training and Technical Training School and was assigned to the 4th Equipment Maintenance Squadron, Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, North Carolina. He excelled as Inspection Section Craftsman where he performed various aircraft inspections at home station and in forward locations. Mike moved from Inspection Section to Repair and Reclamation where he was assigned as Crashed, Damaged, or Disabled Aircraft Recovery NCOIC. Mike was deployed twice to Qatar and was scheduled to deploy again in late November. He was currently on special assignment at Fort Huachuca, Arizona. Mike served his country with pride. He was outspoken, energetic, fun loving, and outgoing. He always had a genuine love and fascination for airplanes. This was extremely evident in his work as well as his love for building and flying remote control planes. He was active in the local community coaching little league. He was always happy and was a friend to everyone he met. Mike's military decorations include the Air Force Commendation Medal with one oak leaf cluster, Air Force Achievement Medal with one oak leaf cluster, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with one oak leaf cluster, Air Force Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terror Service Medal, Air Force Expeditionary Service Ribbon with gold border, Air Force Longevity Service Award Ribbon, NCO Professional Military Education Graduate Ribbon, Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon, and Air Force Training Ribbon. Mike loved his home State and City of Houston, Texas. He was an avid sports fan, especially of the Houston Astros. Mike will be remembered for his love of life, adventure, honesty and love of his family and friends. Of those he leaves behind, are his parents, Sonia and Randall Blankenship, and John and Kitty Siggins; his brother, Lt. Scott Siggins, U.S. Army; stepbrothers and step sisters, Patrick Blankenship; Charles Crumb, Nancy Crumb and Amanda Benzman; Grandparents, Miguel and Nona Reyes; John and Virginia Siggins; Ted and Corrine Blankenship; Aunts and Uncles, Zayda and D. K. Walsh; Carl and Jeanette Siggins; Cindy and Doug Bryant; David and Dorothy Blankenship; Dennis and Becky Blankenship; and Donna Mowad; numerous cousins, other family and a host of friends. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Thursday, July 13, 2006, at Clayton Funeral Home, 5530 W. Broadway, in Pearland. A celebration of Mike's life will be held at 10 AM Friday, July 14, 2006, in the Chapel of Clayton Funeral Home. Interment with full military honors will follow at Forest Park East Cemetery, in Webster, Texas.
