Funeral Service Saturday, Mar 03, 2018 10:00 AM Mary Frances Sharp January 11, 1926 - February 27, 2018 Mary Frances Dewberry Sharp (92) passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at Colonial Oaks in Pearland. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She was born on January 11, 1926 in Athens, Texas to John Mack Dewberry and Hallie Williams Dewberry. The youngest of seven children, Fran, as she was called, graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in Dallas Texas. She worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company as a switchboard operator until 1945, when she married George Herman Sharp Jr, her husband of 71 years. In addition to being a full-time homemaker and mother, she was active in the activities of her three daughters, serving as a Girl Scout leader, Sunday school teacher, and in the La Porte Parent-Teacher Association. She was also active in the La Porte Chapter of Eastern Star and was Mother Adviser for the Rainbow Girls. When her daughters married, Fran was a mentor at Lomax Elementary School, helping children with their reading skills. She and George also revived their skills in square dancing. While a member of the Ladies Reading Club, she served two terms as president. She was a top individual fun-raiser for the Leukemia Society of America. Fran also enjoyed quilting, reading, playing trivia games and traveling to all 50 states and several countries abroad. Fran is preceded in death by her husband, George, and grandson, Sean Amunson. She is survived by her daughters, Mary Linda Williams, husband Paxton, Dyane Richards, husband Alton, Rebekah Amunson, husband Steve; grandchildren Sarah Sellers, husband Aaron, Hallie Spence, husband David, Winfield Williams, wife Monica, Chad Amunson, and Austin Richards; and two great-grandchildren, Anderson and Hunter Sellers. Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 3 from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon at the Life Community Church, 9529 Fairmont Parkway, La Porte, Texas. There will be a brief service following the visitation beginning at noon with interment at Grand View Cemetery in Deer Park, Texas. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a favorite charity.
