Obituary of Jack Rodney Poage

Jack Rodney Poage, 85, was born March 3, 1938 in Philomath, Oregon, and passed away Thursday, September 21, 2023 in Pearland, Texas. He is preceded in death by his father Robert Donald Poage; mother Myrtle Furnberg; son Samuel Lee Poage; and brother Carl Whitney Poage. Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife, Betty Poage, and many friends.

Early in Jack’s life, he lived in California, Arkansas, and New Mexico. He would graduate from Albuquerque in 1956. Jack was strong in his faith and was a humble servant of God from 1960 until 1973. During that time, he wrote two hymns – Life and Vision. Jack moved to the Houston, Texas area and began an AA degree at San Jacinto Junior College. He married Betty Katherine Satterwhite on December 20, 1974, and they adopted a son, Sam, in 1979. In 1984 they moved to Pearland where they built a Tri-steel modified A frame home; later adding a garage and breezeway. During his career, Jack worked for Cesway, Sempra, and Honeywell. He was an elder for many years in Pearland. Jack loved photography and took many pictures over the years. On September 21, 2023, he passed peacefully into eternity surrounded by his wife and many friends.

Services for Jack will be held on Friday, September 29, 2023, at Clayton Funeral Home, 5530 West Broadway, Pearland, Texas. Visitation is scheduled from 4:30 – 6:00 pm. The funeral service will be held at 6:00 pm, with Ronald Elliot, Ruth Taplin, and Karen Cleveland officiating.
