Obituary of Marilyn Marie Edwards

Please share a memory of Marilyn to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

The sun rose on a U.S. Army base in White Sands, New Mexico on July 11, 1954, to bring new life to Marilyn Marie Bernard who was born to Ephraim and Ruthie Mae Bernard. Later in life, Marilyn attended La Porte High School where she was a part of co-op and an avid singer. A short time later, she met her future husband, Harold Gene Edwards, while working at a local hospital. They united in holy matrimony on January 26, 1974, and brought two sons, Demitrious and Cenica. Marilyn was a traditionalist and was strong in her beliefs. She was a lover of God and was never shy to share her love and knowledge of the Bible. Her passion for music was vast. There weren’t too many genres of music that she didn’t enjoy. She could tell you the history, artist, and year of all her favorite songs. She was a trendsetter with her style in her younger years. She never left home without a full beat (make-up), a nice do (hair), and shiny freshly painted nails. Marilyn insured her family, and anyone who entered her home was fed food for the soul. Everything from gumbos to fried chicken or her famous Thanksgiving turkey was made with love.

On December 5, 2023, God called upon Marilyn Marie Edwards, and she answered the call departing her earthly life. She was preceded in death by her husband Harold Gene, and her mother and father, Ruthie Mae and Ephraim Bernard. She leaves three sons, Harold Gene Jr., Demitrious, and Cenica to cherish her memory. Three grandsons, Tayvon, De’Jon, and Jayden. One precious great-daughter, Wren. Six siblings, Alterberry (Cheryl), Belinda (Bobby), Audrey, Ephraim (Tosha), Jacqueline, and Angela (Nathan). A lifelong best friend, Nancy Jones, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
