Walter Douglas Merritte passed away on Wednesday, March 13, 2024, at the age of 77. He was born December 20, 1946, in Galveston, Texas to Rev. Thomas Merritte and Willie K. Larrow. Walter is preceded in death by his parents; brother, A.C. Jones; son Keith Merritte; and sisters, Mechelle Parker and Louise Morris. Left to cherish Walter’s memory are his wife of 40 wonderful years, Diana Merritte; son, Walter Merritte Jr; daughters, Tanya Merritte-Jabbar and Tasha Merritte; brothers, John Merritte, Michael Merritte and wife Priscilla; sisters, Claudette Stephens, Viola Brown, Naomi Lang, Teresa Boulart, Rene Bush and husband Donald, Sandra Robertson and husband Riley; grandchildren, Lauren, Prince, Chloe, Olivia, Matt, Leela, Brielle, and Naima; along with a host of many other family and friends. 

 

Walter graduated from Central High School in 1965, where he was a member of the basketball team. Shortly after graduation he joined the United States Marine Corps, serving his country for 6 years. Walter was a Master Mason who treasured the time he spent with his father, attending lodge meetings. He was a family man who loved spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren. Walter enjoyed cooking and gardening in his spare time. 

 

A Funeral service for Walter will be held on Saturday, March 23rd, 2024, at Clayton Funeral Home of Pearland. Visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 am, and the Service will commence at 11:00 am.
