Tribute to John Bearden, Jr.’s Childhood Years (From Birth through Junior High):
When we remember his childhood, we remember a time filled with discovery, laughter, and deep family connection. From the very beginning, he was surrounded by love — not only from his immediate family, but from grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family who helped shape his early years.
Family gatherings were important to him. He learned early what it meant to belong — to be known, supported, and loved across generations. Those relationships grounded him and gave him a sense of identity that stayed with him throughout his life.
Much of his childhood was spent outdoors, where his curiosity and energy came alive. Whether it was time spent exploring, playing, traveling, or simply being outside with family, those experiences gave him a love for the natural world and a sense of freedom that reflected who he was at heart.
In those years, we saw his personality begin to take shape — thoughtful, observant, and quietly determined. He learned resilience not from words, but from experience: from trying, falling short, getting back up, and trying again.
Scripture tells us in Proverbs 22:6, ‘Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it.’ During those early years, values were planted — faith, family, respect, and responsibility — seeds that would later grow into the man we honor today.
As he moved through childhood and into his junior high years, we watched him begin to stand a little taller, think a little deeper, and look ahead toward the future. Those years were a foundation — built on love, shared experiences, and time together.
We give thanks to God today for his childhood, for the joy he brought to our family, and for the memories that remain with us always. Those early years mattered, and they will forever be a cherished part of his story.
