Nellie Sue “Nell” Keen passed away peacefully in Pearland, Texas, on Sunday, March 29th, 2026, at the age of 98. She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Curtis Keen, and her parents, Turner Lewis Sr and Virginia (Taylor) L Read Obituary
Gerald and I married in March 1980 and I remember when he introduced me to Aunt Nell and Uncle Curtis as his “new” wife I immediately felt loved and include included in the family. I will always marvel at how she could put on a feast and what seemed like a matter of minutes, although looking back I know how much work went into the preparations. I also remember Nell telling us that durning an election campaign George H W Bush came in to their home in Houston and ate peanut butter and jelly sandwich while he sat on the hearth of her fireplace. She was a remarkable woman. One of a kind and a true Christian. I am blessed to have known her.
Aunt Nell was always jolly and smiling. She loved on everyone at the family reunions. Here is a picture from one of my favorite family reunions.
Nell hosted a bridal shower for me in 1984 when I was engaged to marry the boy who grew up across the street from her, Dan Dunn. She and my mother in law, Paula Dunn, were close friends. Eight years later Nell and Curtis would owner finance our purchase of their home on Theysen. The bank wasn't as "keen" to finance a mortgage for a freelance artist. The Keens made it possible for us to raise our five kids across the street from their grandparents, Phil and Paula Dunn. We especially loved the oversized family room that Nell and Curtis had added to the back of the house. It was the perfect place to celebrate birthday parties; a wedding reception; a golden anniversary party; a school choir Christmas party . . . Within the walls of that home there were many happy times! Thank you to the Keen family for your blessings to the Dunn family.
I remember many trips to my grandma’s house and spending it with Aunt Nell and Uncle Curtis they’re in Elkins Lake. Mini fun times at our family reunions. Aunt Nell will be missed.
