Ruthevelia Rios Pinell's Obituary
Today we celebrate and forever remember the life and love of Juana Ruthvelia Rios Pinell. Ruthvelia was born on July 24, 1932 to the late Marcial Rios Jerez and Mercedes Ramirez Rios in Leon, Nicaragua. She passed away in her home in Pearland, Texas, on Sunday, October 26, 2025, at the age of 93, with her husband holding her hand and surrounded by family. She is survived by her husband, Dr Octavio C. Pinell and children Octavio Jose (Paula), Marcia, Philip (Ana), Jane (Adam), Beverly (Nick), and the late Carol Marie. She is also survived by four siblings Rev. Juan Carlos, Delfa (Juan), Augusto (Teresa) and Marcia Elena (Fernando). Six other siblings have passed away, including the late Ballardo, Osman, Diógenes, Almanidia, Azucena, and Ramona. Ruthvelia was also a loving grandmother to 13 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
Ruthvelia dedicated her life to her marriage and to raising her children. She was a very loving mother, a cook like no other, and enjoyed designing and sewing her own creations. Ruthvelia loved music and loved horticulture. She also spent her time with her many friends celebrating important events in their lives. As one of her sisters put it, “She was a very beautiful person who exemplified class, charity, good will, a kind heart, and I could go on and on but most of what I remember is how much she loved her family.”
Ruthvelia was a very devout Catholic and had a rich spiritual life and deep devotion to Mary, Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception. She received a beautiful statue of the Immaculate Conception from her father on her 15th birthday. The statue was very near and dear to her heart and was always prominently placed in her home at all of the Purisimas—the annual celebration of the Immaculate Conception. She devoted her life to ensure that the celebration was a joyous occasion for her family and friends, filled with homemade candy, fruit, and a bounty of her homemade Nicaraguan food.
In her final days, the family prayed the Novena to the Immaculate Conception at her bedside, where the joy on her face could be clearly seen. May Ruthvelia be at peace in heaven in the company of the Immaculate Conception and her family. We love you and will forever remember you.
Funeral services for Ruthevelia will be held at Clayton Funeral Home of Pearland on Wednesday, October 29th, 2025. Her family will receive guests from 12:00 to 1:00 pm, with the service commencing at 1:00 pm.
