Maxine, born in Colmesneil, Texas on July 30, 1929, attended school in the Houston Independent School District, graduating from Milby High School in 1947. She married Freddie Hoppens on February 5, 1948, starting their family in 1955. She worked as an Executive Secretary for the Houston office of Ameron Protective Coatings from 1969 until her retirement in 1991. She loved her job. The people she worked with were like family to her.
She was confirmed as a Lutheran in 1952 at Park Place Lutheran Church. Even though she was a member of the choir at Park Place Lutheran, she was ever faithful to her Southern Baptist singing. As a new mother, Maxine was an active member of the Mother’s Club at Park Place Lutheran Church.
She was a member of Epiphany Lutheran Church in Pearland, Texas since 1995. She sang in the choir, served as a member of the Altar Guild, and volunteered at the Then and Now Resale Shop in Friendswood, Texas, a part of the church’s ministry. She also participated in the Meals on Wheels ministry. She was a faithful member of a bible study group for many years and loved each and every member of the small group.
She loved her family and many friends. She never stopped missing her mother, who passed away in 1984. She loved to dance and sing and loved being the life of the party. Maxine never, ever met a stranger. She made the best iced tea in the area and always had a fresh pitcher to offer guests.
