Edward Lee Jackson, Sr., age 68, beloved husband, father, brother, and friend passed away on December 16, 2007, in Houston, Texas. Edward is survived by his wife of 40 years, Barbara (Thornton) Jackson; daughter Devidia Jackson-Jones of Pasadena, Texas and her former spouse Darrell Jones, Sr.; sons Brian W. Jackson of Houston and Major Eric L. Jackson and his wife Tonya of Fort Hood, Texas; brothers Amos J. Jackson, Jr. and his wife Rachel, and Michael Jackson (all from DeQuincy, Louisiana); sisters Bessie Bluiett of Beaumont, Delores Bluiett and Thelma McCarter (both from DeQuincy) and Linda J. Caston of Houston; step sons Shelton Jackson and Percy Jackson (both from Houston); eight grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and a host of relatives from California, Georgia, Louisiana, Minnesota, Mississippi, Maryland, Virginia, and Texas. Edward is preceded in death by his parents; his son, Edward Jackson, Jr.; and his granddaughter, Michelle Jackson. Edward, better known as “Sarge” by his friends, was born in DeQuincy, Louisiana on December 1, 1939, to Amos Jerome Jackson, Sr. and Brunella Maynard-Jackson. Following high school he worked in the timber industry near Beaumont, Texas and then enlisted into the United States Army. Following a brief enlistment, he returned to Beaumont and worked at Bethlehem Steel. Wanting to continue to serve his country, Edward rejoined the Army and stayed until his retirement in 1979. Following retirement from the Army, he lived over 30 years in the Acres Homes section of Houston and the past 5 years he resided in Pearland, Texas. After his service to our nation, he worked for Cameron Iron Works (Cypress & Houston plants), Texas Department of Corrections, Ellington Field, and was also a student at Prairie View A&M University. Edward was a proud Vietnam Veteran, Army retiree, and soldier for the Lord. He was a member of the Magnolia Masonic Lodge (F&AM) in DeQuincy, LA as well as the DeQuincy Alumni Association. Edward loved any person he encountered and never met a stranger. His gift of friendliness and kindness was exhibited to all. He was always a faithful giver to his church and he remained an active usher until his illness. Visitation will be held on Friday, December 21, 2007, from 7 PM – 9 PM at the Clayton Funeral Home Chapel, 5530 W. Broadway, Pearland, Texas, 77581, 281-485-4446. Funeral services are Saturday, December 22, 2007, at 1:00 PM at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, 5902 Beall Street, Houston, Texas, 77091. Dr. F.N. Williams, Sr. is officiating. Interment will be held Wednesday, December 26, 2007, at 11:15 AM, at the Houston National Cemetery, Houston, Texas.
