June Vernon
June 20, 1930 - August 20, 2013
June Elizabeth Carr Vernon, born to Elmer and Vesta Carr on June 20th, 1930 in Sulphur, Oklahoma, passed away on August 20th, 2013. The second of six siblings, she worked at her father’s business, Sulphur Builder Supply Co., where according to her brother Michael, she was “the asset that kept the store running smoothly through thick and thin.” In 1956 she married her long time love J. A. Vernon and after several years in Norman, Oklahoma and Huntsville, Alabama, they permanently settled in El Lago, Texas in 1963 where they raised their family. June was the precious and loving mother of two boys, Jon Mark and Jeffrey Scott Vernon. However, her love knew no bounds and she always welcomed friends and relatives into her home with what family members affectionately referred to as “the revolving door”. All were loved and welcomed to stay in their home as long as they wanted or needed. One such very special person was Inge, a student from Indonesia. June not only welcomed Inge into her home, but adopted her as one of her own in her heart and always proudly introduced Inge has her “Indonesian Daughter”. In addition to her constant attention and devotion to family and friends, June was a founding member of Nassau Bay Baptist Church and also taught Sunday School for over 50 years; setting the best example of a gracious and compassionate servant to all she met. June was dearly loved by all and especially by her two sons, daughters-in-law and five grandchildren whom she enjoyed spending time with above all else.
June is preceded in death by her husband, J. A. Vernon; her mother and father, Vesta and Elmer Carr; her brother James Carr and sister Cathy Ellen McNeil. June is survived by brothers Tom Carr and Michael Carr; Sister Norma Carr; son and daughter-in-law Jon Mark and Ann Vernon; son and daughter-in-law Jeffrey Scott and Kelly Vernon; and grandchildren: David and Chelsea Vernon; and Kenny, Brittany and Jimmy Overturf.
June Vernon, you will be dearly missed by all who knew you.
Services for June were held at Nassau Bay Baptist Church in Nassau Bay Texas on August 23, 2013 and at First Baptist Church in Sulphur, Oklahoma on August 26, 2013.
